Jump but many things
In two days the government shutdown in the US will be tied for longest in history. Trump is in Texas for some reason, and he’s loosing republican support.
Mexican businesses already lost more than
six hundred
sixty
million dollars because of fuel shortages in just three states. 20% of stations are closed in Mexico City, and Morelia’s government is on the verge of canceling school because of it.
Yellow jackets want the french to empty their bank accounts.
And Maduro was sworn in for another term... shouting “Viva Mexico” during his speech with was, without a doubt, very depressive.
In other news, Frida, the Marine dog that helped rescue people from the rubble after the 2017 earthquake, will appear at a local dog show.
She’s very popular.
dumpsterfire!

At some point the Republican party will have to blink and turn their collective backs on Trump if Trump refuses to budge.
Because I don’t think the Dems will budge.
Which is is bad for the short term, but good in the long run.

I’m one who feels really out of place in the world we live in today. I’m stuck between the Boomers and Millennials and don’t have much in common with either. IMO the Boomers (who are more or less the ones in charge of this country right now) seem to be pissed that they never got their WWIII so they could become the next “Greatest Generation” after their parents, and somehow either think we should roll the clock back to 1955 and everything will be better. Or. just want to pull the ladder up after themselves and screw future generations. there are a handful of Gen-Xers who have bought into the Boomer bullshit, but I’m not one of them.
Millennials seem to be kind of “giving up.” Their prospects are going to be much poorer, opportunities fewer, and of course they’re being relentlessly bitched at by the Boomers because Boomers can’t understand this is a different world than the way things were in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
I know the Boomer/Millennial thing is primarily an American phenomenon, but I have no other way to explain the rise of right-wing populism which has led to the rise of people like Trump, Duterte, Bolsonaro, etc.

Millenials will be / are late bloomers. They are achieving the same life milestones at older ages.
Boomers were able to leave high school, get married, and have the wife stay at home to raise children while the husband worked to support them on a blue collar, low skill job. You could have a family of 4-6 own a decent home and live a decent life on a single income.
Now? A Master’s degree is the new HS diploma. People getting married in their late 20s / early 30s and not having kids until later. 2 incomes. Homeownership down and coming later. More debt.
On the same token, much more opportunity. It’s just farther out of reach and more difficult to get to.

If we look at economic standing, my generation would be like the early Gen X in the US; my job opportunities are growing, and a college degree is certainly valuable, yet my parents (who would be boomers despite being 45) had the best opportunities.
I think that populism here in Latin America is caused by a lot of factors, primarily nostalgia because we didn’t actually record history that well. Like... Maybe you watched Roma? Well, it’s that. In the 70s a Social Security doctor could have two maids, two cars, two children, a good appartment and a stay at home mom... Some romatize it as a Mexican ”Middle class”
But it’s far from it, being a government employee in the 70s would put you at the top of Mexican society... to live in Mexico City and have a car back then? Boy, those people were the richest, not the middle class. The Mexican middle class would struggle to have even a single car if they live in Mexico City. But hey, people think it was that way even if t
he world (and the country) is doing the best economically now than before. T
he issue is that now we get to see the widespread poverty a lot better than through the filtered eyes of old TV.
So a lot of idiots of my age look at Roma or at the petroleum expropriation, or old photos of the metro being built and they think “Huh, they
did
live better!” And vote for politicians that promise to return our country to that glory. But I must make emphasis on the age think. Obrador won here because of the young people... old people voted for PAN. What the idiots my age don't see is government executions, or poverty outside main cities, or huge health risks, or a myriad of other shit.
As for not belonging to a generation. Meh, who cares. the lesser you fit into a stereotype the better I guess. I think that my generation will have a lot of problems even if our economic opportunities aren’t bad... I’m fearful that racism will become a huge issue amongst people my age, and I’m also worried about climate change and political stability.
It’s all the internet’s fault.
